About

Painting is primarily a way for me to explore and test various ideas for visual interest or pleasure. Sometimes I have an idea for a series of representational images, and I want to figure out an approach to bring them to the canvas and see how they hang together. Sometimes I am exploring the medium of paint and paint handling, and the effects of different approaches on the image. I am always interested in color and its effects, whether I’m using bold blues and oranges of my abstract work, or the subdued grays of my representational paintings of office spaces. My disparate previous investigations always inform my current approach.

I have created artwork for several bands, and I am a musician myself. From 1985 to 1992, I was the drummer and occasional songwriter for the Gear Daddies. In 2001, the band reunited, and I currently drum for the band whenever we decide to play a show.
